Recording transactions

Log what you spend and earn in seconds, so every envelope balance stays honest and up to date.

A transaction is a record of money moving — out when you spend, in when you’re paid. Recording them is how your envelope balances stay true to real life. The faster you jot one down, the more your numbers reflect what’s actually in your pockets.

Add a transaction

To log spending, choose the envelope it comes from, enter the amount, and you’re done. You can add a date, a short note, and the account it came from if you want the extra detail. Amounts are entered with Sprigly’s own numpad — a tactile keypad built for money, so you can add a purchase in the checkout line without fuss.

If the money came from a savings account, Sprigly skips the envelope step — savings money isn’t budgeted, so there’s no category to pick.

Income vs expense

Most transactions are money going out. When money comes in — a paycheck, a refund — record it as income instead. Income adds to what you have to assign, ready to be given a job.

When the income is money you haven’t budgeted yet, you don’t have to file it under a spending category at all. Record it straight into Available — your pot of unassigned money — and give it a job later when you fund your month.

Correcting an account’s balance

Sometimes a number just needs a nudge — a little interest, a small fee, or fixing a balance so it matches reality. For that, record the transaction against Balance Change instead of a spending envelope. It adjusts the account on its own, without touching any envelope’s remaining balance, and shows up in your history with a ⇅ mark. It’s the same quiet fix Sprigly offers when you reconcile an account.

Edit or delete

Got something wrong, or a charge changed? Open a transaction and adjust any part of it — the envelope, the amount, the note, the date, the account. Delete it if it shouldn’t be there at all. Your balances recalculate right away.

See your spending

Sprigly gives you a few ways to look back: every transaction in a single envelope, a recent feed across all your envelopes, or everything from a given month. Transfers between accounts are marked clearly, so a move between your own accounts never looks like spending.

Once spending is flowing in, Reports turn it into a clear picture of your month.
